This is an American Porter from the Rogue brewery in Oregon. It pours a dark coffee-like, brownish color with a thick tan head. I notice chocolate and roasted malts in the nose. The taste follows as well with hints of roasted malt and slightly bitter chocolate. The mouthfeel is creamy. This is a good beer and, within the style, I rank it above Sierra Nevada Porter. Definitely one of my favorite Rogue offerings. Overall, I still prefer the English porter style, but this is a fine example of the American version. The alcohol content is 5.3%.

This is an American porter from the Sierra Nevada brewery in California. It pours a dark brown (almost black) with a foamy tan head and good lacing. The smell is made up of roasted malts and coffee. The taste is similar (roasted malts) with a hint of chocolate and a semi-bitter, coffee finish. Alcohol level is at 5.6% and neither noticeable in the smell nor taste. Not a bad porter by any means, but it lacks the complexity of its English counterparts. Another solid output by the Sierra Nevada brewery.
