Leffe Blonde

Leffe Blonde is a Belgian Pale Ale from the Abbaye de Leffe S.A. of Belgium. The alcohol content is slightly high at 6.6%. It pours a golden yellow with orange highlights and a big foamy white head. Lots of lacing. I notice a mix of grass, caramel, and spices in the nose. The beer is sweet upfront (but not overdone), followed by a hint of bitter hops, and a dry, peppery/clove finish. Mouthfeel is relatively smooth with a bit of carbonation. This beer was nice to drink. Not life changing by any means, but something I’d buy again.

De Koninck

This is a Belgian Pale Ale from the Brouwerij De Koninck NV in Belgium. This seemed like a natural beer for me to try being a fan of pale ales and most Belgium contributions to the beer world. The beer poured amber in color with very little head to speak of. I notice grass, hops, and bread in the nose. The taste is weak overall: some hint of bitter hops and a dry finish. The alcohol content is 5%. This is my first Belgian pale ale, but in reference to pale ales in general, I rank it below most of the English and American versions. It is more like an English pale ale in that lacks the hop-bite of the American style, but falls far short of the beautiful complexity found in some of the English pale ales (Fuller’s London Pride comes to mind). This beer was not bad by any means, but better Pale Ales (many of them) can be found.
