Don de Dieu is a Belgian Strong Pale Ale from the Unibroue brewery of Quebec. The alcohol content is 9%. This brewery produces some great beers, so I was anticipating a good one. The beer pours a cloudy, pale yellow color with a frothy white head that sticks around for a while. I notice spice, fruit, and yeast in the nose. The taste is similar, with contributions from pear and a peppery spice that are well balanced. The mouthfeel is heavily carbonated (in a good way) and finishes dry. I really like the way this beer came together. It is light to drink overall and has a nice warming quality with the high alcohol percentage. I’ll buy it again.
This is a ‘Belgian Strong Pale ale’ and a good representative of the style. The beer hails from the Brouwerij Huyghe of Belgium and comes in a unique speckled bottle (11.2 oz). The beer pours a cloudy, pale straw yellow with a creamy white head. Fruits dominate the nose with scents of apple and pear most noticeable. The beer is spicy and presents a well-balanced mix of fruits and malt in the delivery. The 8.5% alcohol content is just right. I really enjoyed this beer and it compares favorably to others I’ve had in the style (Duvel and La Fin Du Monde).
