This is an American Porter from the Founders Brewing Company in Michigan. Having had the Breakfast Stout and the Imperial Stout from Founders, I was excited to try their Porter. This one pours black with a dark tan head. The nose is dominated by roasted coffee, chocolate, and a flavorful alcohol. The mouthfeel on this one is creamy – a bit more than most Porters (and welcomed!). The taste is a healthy union of chocolate, roasted coffee, and hops. The alcohol weighs in at 6.5%. Good beer overall.
This is a Russian Imperial Stout from the Founders Brewing Company in Michigan. I’ve had their Breakfast Stout before which is excellent so I had high hopes going into this one. This beer delivers in every way. I’ve never poured a beer so dark in my life: pure black. There is a dark tan head with lots of creamy bubbles on top. The nose is a mix of chocolate, alcohol, figs, and plums. The taste is also complex with flavors of dark fruit, chocolate, roasted coffee, and spice. The beer is creamy and unbelievably smooth. This beer earns the Imperial title in every way (including the 10.5% alcohol). Great offering.
This beer is an American Pale Ale from the Founders Brewing Company of Michigan. It pours a cloudy, apricot-orange color with a medium, off-white head with staying power. The beer is 6.2% alcohol. The nose is a mix of citrus, hops, and grass. The taste is similar with citrus and hops as the main components. The beer is pretty crisp and finishes dry. This one was ok, but nothing great. I can see it being the perfect beer to drink 1-2 of right after mowing the lawn on a hot day.
This is an Imperial Stout from Founders Brewing Company of Michigan. It pours black with a thick, dark tan head. I notice some hops in the nose and a dominating smell of coffee – something you might brew for royalty. There are also hints of chocolate. The taste is big on roasted malts, balanced out by some bitter hops and contains robust coffee flavor, dark chocolate, and oatmeal. This brew is incredible. The mouthfeel is creamy. This is a big beer: an 8.3% alcohol content that is hidden very well. Excellent all around beer – a favorite of mine now. I will buy this again. Maybe tomorrow.
