Hop Stoopid Ale

This is an Imperial IPA from the Lagunitas Brewing Company of California. It pours amber in color with an off-white head. This is one of the best smelling beers I’ve encountered in a while; a great bouquet of citrus hops, grapefruit, caramel, fruit, and floral undertones await. The taste starts out with sweet malt and citrus fruit (grapefruit and tangerine hints) but is quickly followed up by a dry, bitter hop infusion that lingers with you. This is a great beer. I was glad to find it this time after it selling out on the first day during the previous shipment. The alcohol content is 8% and warming.

Lagunitas Maximus

This is an Imperial IPA from the Lagunitas Brewing Company of California. The alcohol content is 7.5%. It pours a bright copper color with an off-white head leaving lots of lacing on the glass. The nose is big on floral hops, citrus, and sweet malts. The taste is sweet upfront (caramel), then the big hops kick in with citrus (grapefruit) undertones. The beer is mostly smooth throughout with a bitter hop finish. The beer makes me think of an English pale ale that has been hopped up – and I like it. This one gets better and better as it warms up.

Lagunitas Censored

This is an American Amber (Red Ale) out of California’s Lagunitas Brewing Company. I’ve had a few of their other brews (long ago) and gave this one a shot. It pours a copper red and has an inviting smell of citrus and malt. The beer has a 5.9% alcohol level which is barely noticeable. The taste was sweet (almost too sweet) and had hints of caramel and grapefruit. Overall, the beer reminded me a little of Dead Guy Ale, but is definitely an inferior brew. Nice beer, but I can’t really handle the sweetness of more than one of these in a sitting.
