This beer is an Imperial Pale Ale by the Southern Tier Brewing Company of New York. My bottle reads 8% for the alcohol content. The beers pours a crisp, light copper color with an airy, off-white head. The nose is a mix of hops and sweet malts. The taste is complex, combining sweet malts, a hint of caramel, jolly rancher green apple (?), and bold hops. This doesn’t quite match other Imperial Pales I’ve had – but it is good nonetheless. The mouthfeel is quite creamy and finishes off with a slightly fruity-alcohol kick.
This is an American Pale Ale from Bell’s Brewery of Michigan. The beer pours a yellowish-amber in color with a large off-white head. Lots of particulates can be seen floating around in this one. The nose is unremarkable – a bit of hops and some fruit undertones. Very mild hops and malt in the taste. A rather plain beer overall. The alcohol content is 5%. I’d recommend passing over this one in the aisle, though I hear the brewery has better offerings.
This beer is an American Pale Ale from the Founders Brewing Company of Michigan. It pours a cloudy, apricot-orange color with a medium, off-white head with staying power. The beer is 6.2% alcohol. The nose is a mix of citrus, hops, and grass. The taste is similar with citrus and hops as the main components. The beer is pretty crisp and finishes dry. This one was ok, but nothing great. I can see it being the perfect beer to drink 1-2 of right after mowing the lawn on a hot day.
This American Pale Ale is brewed by the Stone Brewing Company of California. It pours amber in color with a light tan head that lingers for a while. I notice a mix of citrus and sweet malts in the nose, neither of which is overdone. The taste holds hints of caramel, sweet malts, and mild hops – a nice mix. The mouthfeel is fairly smooth with mild carbonation. The alcohol content is 5%. Overall, this is a very good pale ale and my favorite Stone offering to date. I’ll buy it again.
This American Pale Ale is made by the Smuttynose Brewing Company in New Hampshire. It pours a honey amber color with a thick, off-white head. The beer is 5% alcohol. I didn’t notice a lot of activity in the nose, aside from some hops and mild citrus. The taste included a hint of citrus (orange) and an incredibly well-balanced mix of sweets malts and mild hops. This beer tastes very good and is smooth all the way down. This should probably be listed as an English Pale Ale instead. I recommend it strongly. I drank mine at sunset today with some fresh crabs I caught.
