St. Bernardus Tripel

This Tripel comes from Brouwerij St. Bernardus NV in Belgium. This is one of my favorite breweries and this tripel doesn’t disappoint. It pours a cloudy pale yellow with hints of amber and an enormous foamy white head (3-4 fingers deep). The alcohol content is 8% and noticeable in the scent, along with grass, spices, and banana. I notice bananas and peppery spices in the taste. The mouthfeel is creamy with a little bit of tingling from the spice and then a dry finish. Overall a good beer and a great example of the style.

St. Bernardus Prior 8

This beer is a Dubbel from the Brouwerij St. Bernardus NV of Belgium. This brewery produces some giants and Prior 8 does not disappoint. The beer pours a cloudy, medium walnut brown with a thin tan head that dissipates quickly. The nose is complex and includes sweet malts, caramel, dark fruits, banana, and a hint of the 8% alcohol content. I notice fig, raisins, malt, and a hint of alcohol in the taste. Great variety and well balanced. This Dubbel is widely considered one of the best in its class. I highly recommend this beer, along with the other offerings from St. Bernardus. You won’t be let down.

St. Bernardus Witbier

This ‘witbier’ comes from one of my favorite breweries, Brouwerij St. Bernardus NV of Belgium. The beer pours a nice golden yellow with a thick white head. Citrus, coriander, and bread make up the subtle collection of scents. The taste follows the smell, only stronger and with noticeable carbonation on the tongue. This is a good brew! The alcohol level is at 5.5%, enabling consumption of a few of these in one sitting. I definitely prefer this witbier to Hoegaarden. Try it out.

St. Bernardus Abt 12

This is a Belgian ‘quadrupel’ that I drank out of a wider-rimmed wine glass. I let this one warm up a bit (maybe over 50 F). Brownish-amber in color with golden light shining through at glass rim. I could smell malt and raisins and a slight of hint of the alcohol (10%). Carbonation was mild and the taste was extremely smooth. This is a beer that actually warms you from the inside quickly. This is the best beer I’ve ever tasted.
