This is a Witbier from the Canadian brewery Unibroue (one of my favorites). The alcohol content is 5%. The beer pours a very pale, hazy orange color with a white foamy head that dissipates quickly. The nose is dominated by lemon zest and spices. I notice citrus and coriander in a rather light overall taste. The carbonation is high, but finishes creamy and dry. This is a nice example of the style. I’ll buy it again.
Don de Dieu is a Belgian Strong Pale Ale from the Unibroue brewery of Quebec. The alcohol content is 9%. This brewery produces some great beers, so I was anticipating a good one. The beer pours a cloudy, pale yellow color with a frothy white head that sticks around for a while. I notice spice, fruit, and yeast in the nose. The taste is similar, with contributions from pear and a peppery spice that are well balanced. The mouthfeel is heavily carbonated (in a good way) and finishes dry. I really like the way this beer came together. It is light to drink overall and has a nice warming quality with the high alcohol percentage. I’ll buy it again.
This a Belgian Strong Dark Ale from Unibroue of Canada. I’ve enjoyed some of their other beers, so I had high expectations for this one. This beer pours dark brown with a tan head. I notice malts in the nose complemented by a mix of dark and citrus fruits. The taste is complex (and difficult to describe). I notice pumpernickel bread, cherries, dark fruits, and sweet malts. The alcohol, at 9%, is hidden very well. This is a really good beer! I’ll buy it again.
This is a Belgian Strong Golden Ale (similar in style to Duvel and Affligem Blond). It is made by the Canadian brewery Unibroue and the beer’s name translates to “the end of the world”. I sampled a corked 750mL bottle. The color is a honey yellow with a white head. Definite scent of spices and citrus, which find their way into the taste as well. The alcohol content is strong at 9% but not exactly noticeable in the smell or the sweet taste. La Fin Du Monde is a fine example of the style and I would not be upset if I were found drinking one of these at the end of the world.
This is a Belgian Strong Dark Ale. It is made by the Canadian brewery Unibroue and the beer’s name translates to “the damned one”. I sampled a corked 750mL bottle. The color is a copper-brown with a quickly dissipating white head. The scent and taste is dominated by yeast with hints of spice. The alcohol content is strong at 8% and is noticeable with each sip. Overall, I was disappointed with this beer and don’t plan to buy it again.
