This beer is a Witbier from New Belgium Brewing of Colorado. It pours a pale and cloudy yellow with a thick, foamy white head leaving heavy lacing on the glass. The nose is dominated by citrus and spice. The taste is a light mix of spice, lemon, and orange. The alcohol is correspondingly light at 4.8%. No surprises here – just a nice session beer for a hot evening.
This is a Witbier from the Canadian brewery Unibroue (one of my favorites). The alcohol content is 5%. The beer pours a very pale, hazy orange color with a white foamy head that dissipates quickly. The nose is dominated by lemon zest and spices. I notice citrus and coriander in a rather light overall taste. The carbonation is high, but finishes creamy and dry. This is a nice example of the style. I’ll buy it again.
This is a Witbier from the Brouwerij De Regenboo of Belgium. It pours a cloudy, yellowish-orange color with a quickly dissipating white head with moderate lacing. I notice spices and citrus (orange peel) in the nose. The taste mimics the nose and contributes a bit of wheat and some sourness. Overall, the mouthfeel is very light and thin, though fairly carbonated. This is an interesting take on the Witbier style with the sourness. Definitely not as good as the St. Bernardus example, but might give Hoegaarden a run. The alcohol content is low at 5%. You can do a lot better in the Witbier category and for this reason I likely won’t purchase Vuuve again.
This ‘witbier’ comes from one of my favorite breweries, Brouwerij St. Bernardus NV of Belgium. The beer pours a nice golden yellow with a thick white head. Citrus, coriander, and bread make up the subtle collection of scents. The taste follows the smell, only stronger and with noticeable carbonation on the tongue. This is a good brew! The alcohol level is at 5.5%, enabling consumption of a few of these in one sitting. I definitely prefer this witbier to Hoegaarden. Try it out.
Belgian witbier that everyone apparently has tried except me…until now. Pours a very cloudy, pale yellow color with a white foamy head that diminished quickly. Alcohol content is 5%. The taste was sharp and refreshing. Looking forward to trying a few more from this style.
